World Usability Day is celebrated every year on the second Thursday of November. The main objective of this date is to discuss the importance of usability, and think about how to improve it, making people’s daily lives simpler.
On this day, meetings, company visits, conferences and other initiatives are held in various countries. Companies are encouraged to hold or attend events. To learn more, visit the official website of this date.
What is usability?
Usability is a term used to define how easily people can use certain tools to accomplish specific tasks. These can be products (such as household items, for example), or even a website, mobile app, or online store. Basically, it refers to the simplicity and ease with which a product, interface, software or website is used.
UX Designers should be concerned with creating intuitive technology, as well as thinking about certain things, such as:
- Universal design: technology and products that work for everyone;
- Accessibility;
- User Experience
The importance of usability
A website with good usability has lower bounce rates, longer browsing time and higher conversion rates.
Many people leave their websites and even gave up buying a product because they found the sites confusing or because they couldn’t find what they needed, how to choose the products, colors, etc. People end up losing their temper when they don’t understand how to work with your site. Also, if your site has 404 pages or is slow to open (because it has heavy images, for example), people will give up.
If it is easy to navigate the website, the company only has to profit: it will gain higher ranking in search engines, more customers and therefore more sales.
Now that you know the importance of usability, put it into practice to improve your website! Still have doubts? Learn more about UX Design.
