spam traps o que são e como evitá-los

Spam traps, or spam traps, are basically tools that email servers, such as Gmail or Hotmail, use to find spammers who send email to non-opt-in databases. If you don’t know these concepts, read our article about opt-in and opt-out. If company email is caught in a spam trap, delivery rates are seriously affected as email servers will send the messages to spam.

How does a spam trap really work?

These are email addresses created, but never disclosed, by email servers, that is, they should never receive email from other users or companies. When this happens, the servers understand that the sender is a potential spammer who has found this email incorrectly. Therefore, the company that sends something to this email does not follow the good practices of Email Marketing. By being marked as a spammer, your email can hardly ever send other emails again.

Types of spam traps

Pure spam traps

The only purpose is to catch spammers because they are created in confidence, meaning they should never receive any email from people or companies. When you send messages to these accounts, your IP address and domain are immediately impaired.

Recycled spam traps

These are email addresses that existed in the past, but were taken over by email servers after a certain amount of downtime. These emails send alerts informing you about account inactivity. After this period, the account becomes spam trap. Thus, if you have received notifications to remove that email address and have not done so, you will be identified as a spammer.

How to avoid spam traps?

Do not buy mailing lists! The addresses collected from these purchased lists are usually inactive or are very old and have now turned into spam traps.

Also, in your own database there may be very old emails, even if they were opt-in. Clean your contact list frequently, especially by removing long-active addresses. Also, collect emails correctly, that is, send your communications to people who are really interested in receiving them.
